Have found a really cheap way to clean silver jewellery.
Line a bowl with aluminium foil (shiny side up) put in jewellery making sure touching foil add 1 tablespoon baking powder and one of salt then approx 6 of vinegar. Pour on boiling water. Now watch it foam! Leave for approx 10 mins, remove, rinse and polish. (NB this has worked for me without the vinegar and salt) Apparently can be used for gold but have never tried it. Not for use for jewellery that contains pearls or amber. Have used with a ring with small diamond and no problems.

There are some fabulous uses for baking powder. My only problem is the very small quantities it's sold in. Now, if I could buy it by the pound or kilo, it would make so many more jobs easier.

You are right there Alison. Must be somewhere where you can buy other than in tiny boxes. Must investigate 😉
